Publication in Finland

Our project team member, Emese Ilyefalvi has published a chapter in the Finnish Literature Society’s new volume on handwritten newspapers. She analyses writing practices of two handwritten newspapers which were connected to evangelical movements and Protestant Home Mission in the first third of the 20th century in Transylvania. Conferences and seminars

In the past year, our team participated actively in Hungarian scientific life. We took part in several conferences in Hungary and abroad. Special mention should be made of Dániel Bárth’s block seminar at the Babeş–Bolyai University in Kolozsvár (Cluj Napoca, Romania) in October 2019. Subsequently, all members of the research group contributed to the annual conference on history of ethnography, held also in Kolozsvár.

Folcloristica Historica – vol. 1

We have the pleasure to inform you that our research team has published the book of ‘Paptartás a kalocsai főegyházmegyében (1738-1849)’ – in English ‘Priest-keeping in the main Diocese of Kalocsa (1738–1749)’ – written by János Bárth as the first part of our series ‘Folcloristica Historica’. The book details the income of priests based on the contracts concluded between them and rural communities in Diocese of Kalocsa in the 18-19th century.

Canadian award to our researcher

Our project team member, Emese Ilyefalvi gave a paper at Canada Congress 2019 in Vancouver, University of British Columbia, (June, 2019). She was awarded the 2019 Ian Lancashire Promise Award by the Canadian Society for Digital Humanities for her paper entitled “Looking through the Hungarian verbal charm corpus.”

SIEF – conference and working group participation

2019.04.29. Two members of our research group participated in the 14th SIEF (Société Internationale d´Ethnologie et de Folklore) congress in Santiago de Compostella (April 2019). Anna Szakál talked about István Tiboldi, a 19th-century folklore collector, teacher and poet. She explored the question of how researchers from different ages tried to construct a good or bad collector (István Tiboldi ’a bad collector’ from the 19th century).
